For many people yoga provides good techniques for general health and well being. Moral observances (yamas and niyamas), help to guide our actions; Asanas, or postures, help develop our physical strength and flexibility; Breathing practices (pranayama) help to manage our energy and stress levels; Meditation helps to bring stillness. The full practice of yoga can also help us to see things with greater clarity, and to channel our energies in a really positive way. I teach a number of small and friendly group Hatha yoga classes which are suitable for all. No previous experience of yoga is necessary, beginners are more than welcome. I also offer private classes to individuals and I am available to teach in school settings to teenagers, and hen parties.
In general, my classes start off slowly with time to prepare the body and centre the mind. I like to intertwine the yogic philosophy and wisdom in a theme for each class, and then we progress onto practising a sequence of yoga postures with a range of dynamic flowing, and static postures, for all levels of ability. Throughout the class we work with the breath, and during the class we practice a pranayama technique which are traditionally yoga specific breathing practises. The class may finish with a guided relaxation, short meditation or yoganidra. You may possibly find that you leave the class with a greater sense of lightness in your heart and in your step.
